Applique Christmas Dress

December 20, 2011

I made this cute little reversible dress this Christmas.  Reversible jumper type dresses like this one are great because you get two looks out of one (my favorite, combining fashion with efficiency, ha!) and they can be worn again the next year as a top with some pants or leggings.  To make them reversible, just put the button holes in as normal in the front straps and sew buttons on both sides (back to back) on the back straps.  This probably goes without saying, but you want to make sure that both your buttons are the same size so that they’ll both fit through the same button hole.

I first made the embroidery designs in my digitizing program and then put them on each front piece before construction.

I also added some ribbon bows to each to give them a little dimension.  Although not too much, since it is reversible.  For the ornament design, I sewed the ric rac down first, then appliqued the circle over that.
